The first graders at Marquette School in Chicago learned about Indonesian batik, then created faux-batik pictures, using gel glue instead of wax. Their pictures are inspired by one of two Indonesian proverbs: “Different fields, different grasshoppers;; different seas, different fish,” and “One fallen, thousands blossoming.”
